In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
The historical story continues from where we left off, when the Muslims, by the miracle of God, were able to escape the siege of Abu Talib. In the previous video, I explained how the covenant was eaten by termites, and this incident led many people of Quraysh to accept Islam and become Muslims. However, the leaders of Quraysh, due to their stubbornness and the threat to their interests, did not accept the religion of Islam even after witnessing the miracle.
After the siege ended, they allowed Muhammad to continue his invitation next to the Kaaba during specific days. Yet, they would go to the city entrance and tell anyone entering Mecca that Muhammad was a sorcerer and a madman, urging them not to listen to his nonsense. Even the Prophet had an uncle named Abu Lahab who would follow him, loudly proclaiming that he was a liar and that people should not listen to him. They were unwilling to change, insisting that idol worship was the way of their ancestors and that they could not abandon it. They began to harass and torment the Prophet and his companions once again.
This time, the Prophet told a group of his companions that there was a just and kind king in Abyssinia, and they should seek refuge there to live in safety. The companions of the Prophet, consisting of both men and women, led by the Prophet's cousin, Ja'far ibn Abi Talib, set out for Abyssinia.
The leaders of Quraysh, fearing the spread of Islam in Abyssinia, sent two eloquent individuals along with numerous gifts to Abyssinia to negotiate with its ruler and bring the Muslims back to Mecca.
When they arrived in Abyssinia, they bribed the military commanders with large sums of money to prevent the presence of the Muslim group before the king. A meeting was held, and they presented the gifts to the king of Abyssinia, saying, "A group of young men from our city have gone astray, abandoning the religion of their ancestors and adopting a new faith that is neither our religion nor yours. They have followed someone who claims to be a prophet of God, a sorcerer and a liar. They have come to Abyssinia to lead others astray as well."
The king of Abyssinia replied, "What kind of religion is this that does not accept your faith or ours? I must see this group and speak with them." He ordered for the Muslim group to be brought to the palace.
When the Muslims arrived at the palace, the king asked them, "What is this new religion of yours?"
Ja'far stepped forward and said, "O great king of Abyssinia, we were a people who worshiped stone and wooden idols, consumed carrion, committed vile acts, and oppressed one another, living in filth.
Among us, a man emerged whom we believed to be trustworthy and honest. He proclaimed that he was the messenger of the one true God, calling us to honesty, purity, kindness to neighbors and friends, and to fight against oppression.
The leaders of Quraysh subjected us to torture and harassment until our Prophet Muhammad told us to go to Abyssinia, where there is a just and righteous king. So, we sought refuge in your city.
Moreover, our religion recognizes your prophet, Jesus, as a messenger of God, born of a pure mother named Mary.
Then he began to recite Surah Maryam, which speaks of the life of Jesus and his mother, Mary. The king and all the priests present began to weep, swearing by God that your religion is the truth.
Ja'far then presented the letter of the Prophet to the king, which contained the following message."
The content of the Prophet's letter was as follows:
"In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful, from Muhammad, the Messenger of God, to the great Negus of Abyssinia. Peace be upon whoever follows guidance.
I first praise the one God, who has no deity but Him, the Pure and Exalted King, the Giver of Peace and Guardian. I bear witness that Jesus, son of Mary, is the spirit and word of God, which He bestowed upon the pure virgin Mary. Mary became pregnant by the divine spirit and breath, just as God created Adam by His power.
I call you to the one God, who has no partner, and invite you to obey Him. I urge you to follow me and to have certainty in what has been revealed to me, for I am the Messenger of God. I call you and your soldiers to the Almighty God. Indeed, I have conveyed the message and offered sincere advice; accept my counsel. Peace be upon whoever follows guidance. Muhammad, the Messenger of God."
The Negus kissed the Prophet's letter, placed it on his head and eyes, and, as a sign of humility, descended from his throne, bearing witness to the oneness of God and the Prophethood of Muhammad.
The king of Abyssinia returned the gifts of the Quraysh representatives to them and said that the Muslims could live freely in his land for as long as they wished and spread the religion of Islam. The Quraysh representatives returned to Mecca feeling hopeless, angry, and defeated, while the Muslims happily left the palace of the king.
Dear friends, next time I want to talk about the migration of our Prophet to the city of Yathrib and the events that took place. Support me by subscribing, and stay tuned for the upcoming videos!
