In the name of God,
I want to tell you about the life and romantic marriage of the Prophet of Islam, which serves as a model for all Muslims. You might find it interesting to know that the Prophet was a merchant and married a woman who was also a trader. Let me share the story of their marriage with you.
One day, Abu Talib, the Prophet's uncle, said to Muhammad, "I am getting old and can no longer handle long journeys and trade. Go to Khadijah, the daughter of Khuwailid, and collaborate with her in trade." Khadijah was a young and powerful woman in commerce, holding high influence and respect among the men of Mecca, with many people working for her.
The Prophet Muhammad approached her and proposed a partnership in trade. Because Muhammad was known for his honesty and integrity, Khadijah agreed to start working with him, providing a significant amount of money along with a servant to accompany him for trading. The Prophet embarked on his first trading journey to Syria.
During their journey to Syria, the servant noticed that when Muhammad was making deals and was asked to swear by the idols of the Kaaba, he became upset and refused, as he believed in the one God. He was very shrewd, ethical, and fair in his dealings. When they returned from the trip, they had made a significant profit in trade, and the servant shared everything he had witnessed with Khadijah. She was very impressed by Muhammad's character and decided to host a gathering, inviting the prominent figures of Mecca, including Muhammad.
During the gathering, one of the Jewish scholars pointed out Muhammad to Khadijah and said, "Do you see that young man? He has a bright future ahead of him, and all the signs of the Prophet of the End Times are present in him." This conversation made Khadijah even more interested in Muhammad and solidified her decision.
One day, she sent her maid to Muhammad with a message, asking if he would be willing to marry Khadijah. Muhammad replied, "I am a young man who has nothing compared to Khadijah's wealth. Why would she want to marry me?"
The maid returned to Khadijah and relayed all of Muhammad's words. Khadijah replied, "Wealth is not important to me in this choice; it is Muhammad's moral qualities that have made me interested in him." The maid then went back to Muhammad and shared Khadijah's response. Muhammad was very happy and said, "I would be delighted to marry Khadijah; it is my greatest wish to have a wife like her."
Muhammad consulted with his uncle, and the date for the wedding was set. A celebration was held among the prominent figures of Mecca, and Muhammad and Khadijah got married. Khadijah was a very wealthy woman with a large house that accommodated many people from Mecca. She owned eighty thousand camels that worked for her in trade, and she entrusted all of them to Muhammad. They shared a romantic life together and had six children, all of whom sadly passed away in infancy, except for their only daughter, Fatimah, who survived. I will share her story in future tales.
Although the custom among Arabs was polygamy, the Prophet did not marry anyone else while Khadijah was alive and always spoke fondly of her.
When Muhammad was appointed as a prophet, Khadijah spent all her wealth to support the spread of Islam. After 25 years of married life, Khadijah passed away, and the Prophet named the year of her passing the Year of Sorrow.
